As you have already learned in the opening text, my life is characterised by colour. Not only in the sense of the crayon colours we are familiar with, but also my entire life is like a colour palette that contains pretty much all the shades that make up a bouquet of life experiences. I have always been creative. Be it crafting something, sewing, knitting or whatever else I could get my hands on. I have an insatiable need to create something that will give me pleasure in the end, not just while I’m doing it, but also when it’s finished and I can either give it away or use it myself. I started painting a little over 20 years ago. I surprised myself with the ease with which I painted portraits. I actually watched the paintbrush mix the colours and then paint the portrait. I knew that it wasn’t “me” who was painting it, because apart from school lessons I had never had any training. Everything fell into my hands effortlessly. At the beginning I painted with watercolour/guash and only a few years later did I venture into oil paint.
On my walks in nature, I discovered creatures everywhere that smiled or winked at me, be it in tree trunks, stones, mushrooms, lichen or even stains on the road. I photographed these creatures and then painted them in my colours and also turned them into stories for you to tell. Then came the idea of painting monkeys. And finally the animals that have found their home in the Lewa Savannah at Zurich Zoo. And then came a new phase: colourful oil paintings. Here, too, I let myself be guided and am always amazed at what emerges on the canvas. It gives me great pleasure to create these paintings and share them with the world.
I feel and know that they have a message for us and also serve to heal. Different for each one of us.
